despite the jam-packed racks of sweaters, i was surprised how difficult it was to find a sweater ugly enough for the party. a few truly heinous ones were $10 or more! sorry, not paying that much for fug. (does the acquiring of an ugly sweater go against my shopping ban? i say 'nay' because such abomination is going back into the donation bin after the party.)
after spending too much time in vv (as per usual) and being tempted by some true 80's gems, we went for dinner at zakkushi on main. (remember my love for izakaya?)
major photo dump ahead. don't scroll on an empty stomach.

decor - ceramic banana peel pendant lamps?

i had to order one of their drink specials - sake with cassis and calpico (aka calpis) - because setsugetsuka (literally translates to 'snow moon flower') is fun to say. it was really sweet, but tasty.

a featured dish: deep-fried quail eggs - not unlike takoyaki in preparation and dressing.

zakkushi's signature is char-grilled food, so naturally we loaded up on yakitori.

for our main dish, we ordered the mentai kimuchi yakiudon (i mixed it before remembering to photograph, oops) and for dessert, dorayaki matcha ice cream.
writing this post made my mouth water... anyway, my outfit that evening:
i have not invested in over-the-knee boots this season, but own a few pairs of thigh-high socks, so decided to play around with pairing those with boots:

my mom brought this coat back from china a few years ago - it was either a gift from one of my aunt's or just chosen by her - and the boots are the same ones i am wearing here.
ps - my ugly sweater cannot be revealed 'til i actually post about the party!
