I had to take a couple days off after the event to catch up on rest. Then things got busy again, and finding time to tally up sales numbers, count money, and sort through the inventory (again) was harder than anticipated.

taylor tomasi hill.

I had always noticed Taylor Tomasi Hill on sites like Jak & Jil Blog over the years, but recently decided to look more closely into the archives of her fashion week appearances. AND THEN I BECAME OBSESSED.

Currently the Accessories Editor at Marie Claire (formerly of Teen Vogue), Taylor Tomasi Hill is a self-described clothing chameleon. While not as flashy as Anna Dello Russo (and I don't mean that in a derogatory way; I love ADR) and not as effortless smart-chic as the Paris Vogue team, Taylor finds a way to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. And even if you find her in a relatively "safe" outfit, her signature red hair is always the perfect stand-out accessory.

Another thing I've noticed is Taylor's not afraid to show off her current closet favourite or recycle old favourites into new outfits. While some fashion editors seem to travel from fashion week to fashion week with trunks of clothes, Taylor seems to work around some key pieces in her suitcase; I like to think it makes her seem more human and accessible.

i wanted to share these amazing pieces by ling yali i found in an issue of vogue china last month. sorry for the horrid scan (click for larger image). the magazine is quite a monster and hard to lay flat on a scan bed. i am so in love with the vest in the bottom right hand corner; such a work of art.

(yaaaaaay giants!!!!!!!) tomorrow/today, i will rock my canucks jersey and eyeshadow. wish me luck on finding the proper nail polish! (or would that be too matchy-matchy? heh)

toronto fashion week round up!

finally posting the rest of my toronto fashion week reviews! last week was a bit hectic, hence the big delay. so, without further ado...

truth be told, i am a tad disappointed with carlie wong's collection. i definitely remember loving stuff from her collections a few seasons ago, but this feels a bit average and not particularly groundbreaking. that being said, perhaps the recession's got a bit to do with her decision to hold back.


evan biddell


my reason for cropping some of these faces is not so much an image size issue, but more of a saving-your-eyes issue. i understand where the intent was for the makeup, but somewhere along the way, it all went horribly wrong. clearly, this has detracted the attention away from the clothes which i quite like, and i also appreciate the rocking of the balmain-look-a-likes. (non-platform version, here.)

oh how do i even begin to rave about my love for this collection? maybe it's mostly the surreal/romantic/dreamy/foresty (yeah, it's a word now!) backdrop and the hair and not so much the clothes... either way, lucian matis has me swooning! while i was figuring out how to best collage this collection, i came up with this:



obviously impossible to see the clothes, so here's a less dreamy version:




(notice that for once, a reality show's intents on launching careers seems to have actually worked. congrats to carlie, evan, and lucian!)

jonas löfgren.

i saw this bit about lula's "a perfect mess" editorial featuring illustrations of our favourite disheveled fashionistas and immediately fell in love with the illustrations! the illustrations are by jonas löfgren and i love his entire body of work! wow! the dark and doll-like figures i've seen lots, yes, but there is so much expression in the faces he draws. more inspiration that i don't know when i'll get around to channeling. (if i call it a rainy day project, does that mean i should have fulfilled my list of them by now seeing as i live in vancouver...?)

i just discovered the masthead with marie claire (via fabsugar). it's a behind-the-scenes look at how marie claire magazine puts together fashion editorials and some beauty tidbits, etc. i love it! and being the travel junkie that i am, here's the most recent episode that i really enjoyed:

dollhouse.

i was snooping around erin fetherston's website and came across this little (6-minute long) video: dollhouse. i won't spoil it for you, but if you know me, you'll probably understand why i love it!*

i didn't enjoy dreamy wander as much as dollhouse, but i do love zooey deschanel! also worth checking out are the urban flowers photos by ellen von unworth. awesome, as expected.

marguerite sauvage.

whilst browsing the other day (perhaps it was fabsugar), i came across this link and marguerite sauvage's awesome illustrations. i am in love with the line work and colours. her clientele is quite extensive, and deservingly so! have a look at her galleries; she also does animation. i am completely inspired to integrate runway looks into my drawings now.
